July 2020 Update

Walking group

COVID 19 has restricted our activities this year some groups are finding ways to continue their activities.

The walking group has adapted is activities to fit in with the social distancing guidelines and regulations. The group recent had a walk to Altona on a day when the weather was somewhat challenging .

New Course for 2020

Darby Higgs is offering a new course for the second half of 2020.

Non fiction writing

How to write a how to book is designed to enable U3A members to share some of their knowledge and skills by writing and publishing a short How to ebook. No specialised skills are required but members will learn some along the way. The course will involve regular Zoom meetings with course material distributed over the web. Participants will collaborate to reach an achievable goal by the end of the year.

Please email Darby for more details.

June 2020 Update

Activities of U3A Hobsons Bay/Williamstown have been suspended during the COVID 19 pandemic. Depending on the Government lifting of restrictions, we are hoping that some face-to-face activities will be resumed later this year. In the meantime there are a number of classes that are utilising Zoom or other online platforms, plus outdoor activities, such as
the walking group, that are operating under social distancing guidelines.

February 2020 Update

Welcome to the new year at U3A. A special welcome to new members. At this stage of the year many of our courses are fully subscribed. Good news, but we need your help to step up and create new activities. Contact me with ideas and suggestions and I will explain how to get started.

Activities in 2020 will be those listed on the courses page.

A few suggestions for new activities have been thrown around. These include an intermediate level Conversational French class, self run as we do not have a convenor for this activity, another Book Club, a Memoir Writing group, a Photography class or a few sessions around improving your holiday photos and making photo albums. Chess, Card Games (other than Bridge) and Cribbage are other possibilities. Any new ideas please forward to a Committee member or myself.

Sarah Berry is organising some interesting arts related activities, called Arts Happenings in 2020. Details are here.

Annette Signorini is planning on conducting an activity around Linguistics. Yell if you are interested. More details as they become available.

We have had offers of a speaker for:

  1. Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney
  2. Stroke prevention
  3. A look at the culture of African people who are refugees and asylum seekers to Australia.

By now hopefully you have seen the website at u3ahbwilli.org.au – feedback would be appreciated. Darby Higgs has stepped forward to take over managing the site. Please email Darby with comments about the website and any contributions.
